KEITH MERITH, POLICE INSPECTOR

Keith Merith, a 25 year Police veteran, has been with the York Regional Police Service (Y.R.P.) since 1986 and has achieved the rank of Inspector. Keith is presently assigned to the Investigative Services Branch as the Officer in Charge of the Organized Crime Bureau. His previous assignments at Y.R.P. have included the Drugs and Vice Unit, Uniform Patrol, Training and Education Bureau as an Academic / Use of Force Instructor and later as Officer-in-Charge, Use of Force Instructor, and as the primary facilitator of the Y.R.P. Employment Equity and Race Relations Program.

Keith has also worked in Old Clothes, Criminal Investigations, Intelligence, Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit, Duty Inspectors Office, and Officer in Charge of the Special Services Bureau.

A dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer who is heavily connected to the community, Keith is also a former member of the Chiefs Community Council, and an original member of the Y.R.P. Employment Equity Committee. He has served in many different capacities in several different community organizations over the years.

Keith was the first Y.R.P. Officer to be assigned a six month special assignment seconded position in local high schools teaching race relations, police and youth perceptions and law related courses.

Keith has enjoyed rich and fulfilling careers in several fields prior to Policing which include five years as a Child Care Worker with the(then) Ministry of Community and Social Services, and two years as a Correctional Officer at Maplehurst Correctional facility.

Keith holds a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice Studies from the University of Guelph. He is a graduate of the Rotman School of  Mangement – Police Leadership Program, and the Humber College Law and Security Administration Program. Along with his other academic accomplishments Keith is also a graduate of the Ontario Management Development Program with a major in Leadership Skills.

With the Association of  Black Law Enforcers Keith (A.B.L.E.) was previously an Executive Member prior to 2011 when he was elected as the fourth President of A.B.L.E.
