EBONY WRIGHT – COORDINATOR,COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, VOLUNTEER MBC

    • Past Role Models

Ebony is employed at Volunteer MBC as the Coordinator of Community Engagement responsible for the volunteer engagement of Volunteer MBC. She is also making a positive impact in the lives of young people through her volunteer position with Catholic Family Services of Peel-Dufferin as a Sister Mentor. As a sought after speaker by various youth groups, she is passionate about helping the younger generation build their skills and strength to rise up to the challenges in life. Ebony is currently engaged with the non-profit and voluntary sector since the summer of 2011 after having complete her Bachelors in Law & Society and International Development Studies from York University. Like many university graduates, she had found that her education gave her a lot of knowledge but no skills that she could put to use in search of an employment opportunity.

With interests in helping new immigrants and assisting with government programs, Ebony began seeking out opportunities where she could gain administrative experience but also be of service to others. In July 2012, she joined Volunteer MBC as a volunteer serving in the position of Volunteer Engagement Assistant and with Canada Revenue Agency’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program.

Due to her interest in helping others access government program and services, she sought to broaden her knowledge of government operations and joined the Public Administration Program, graduating with Honours in August 2013. Throughout the program, Ebony learned that the non-profit sector provides the biggest value to government, being entrusted with administering various front line programs and services that serve the needs of her community.

With that in mind, Ebony hopes to remain engaged with the non-profit sector in any capacity whilst also volunteering to continue broadening her skill set. Ebony is continuing her education at Fleming College being enrolled in the Volunteer Management Certificate program.
