CARL LEWIS – CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER
Carl was born in the small Caribbean island of Grenada, known as the “Isle of Spice” and had a very simple and humble childhood under the care of my grandmother while his mom traveled to the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao in search of a better life to take care of her children. His grandmother was a strong, poor estate labourer who struggled to make ends meet taking care of six children of her own plus Carl and three other sibling. His family did not have the economic base to support members educating beyond secondary education. However Carl was the only family member lucky enough to secure government support for post-secondary education.
In 1996, he secured a part-scholarship from the Government of Grenada to pursue a Bachelors of Business Administration majoring in Management & Marketing at Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls Texas, USA. Carl graduated in 1999 then worked with Boys & Girls Club of Wichita Falls as a Director of one of their branch managing the day-to-day operation of the facility.
Carl returned to Grenada in 2002, where he worked as a Project Coordination for a government funded social infrastructure project – Basic Needs Trust Fund Project, where after three years, Carl was promoted to Project Manager. Carl managed the entire project portfolio valued at $65 Million US, a team of twenty-three professionals, and managing the implementation of construction projects such as hospitals, schools, roads, and bridges.
Carl migrated to the United Kingdom with his family in 2010 to pursue a Master’s of Science Degree in Project Planning and Management. After completing his studies, in July 2011, Carl migrated to Canada and immediately commenced crucial search for employment. With the support of a longtime friend from Grenada who lived and worked in Canada, Carl landed a job at Metrolinx/GO Transit as a Construction Supervisor. After 2 1⁄2 years as a Construction Supervisor he was promoted to the position of Senior Construction Supervisor managing a team of 4 construction supervisors.
I would like to thank God for his never ending mercies for taking me through the huddles of life to get me to where I am today and my family for continuous support through my ordeals in life.
