KAREN FLEMING, CLINICAL NURSE & EDUCATOR

Karen Fleming has been a Registered Nurse for over 14 years, specializing in Pediatrics and Education. Karen is passionate about patient and family centered care and more specifically diminishing racial health inequities that exist for those belonging to racialized groups. She worked for 13 years at SickKids in various roles including bedside nurse, charge nurse, RN council member, Cultural Competence Champion, Inter-professional Education Specialist, Clinical Informatics Nurse, and in the outpatient Oncology clinic as a Clinical Coordinator.
Karen continues traveling her Road to Excellence by taking on a Clinical Nurse Educator role at North York General for the Pediatric program with the opportunity to directly impact the level of care provided to patients and families who come to North York. Karen has also contributed to her community by volunteering with Camp Jumoke, a camp that sends children with Sickle Cell Disease to camp for 2 weeks each summer, for 9 years as the nursing director.
Lastly, Karen is a mother of an almost 4 year old boy and has been married for over 10 years and has a deep belief in living each moment to the fullest because you never know when it will be your last.
