A long-time Brampton resident, Kathy McDonald has been actively involved with the Peel District School Board as a parent volunteer since 2001. She began her four-year term as trustee of Wards 3 and 4 in Brampton on Dec. 1, 2014.

Kathy’s key priorities are to help each child realize his or her full potential, to work with the community to support student success through increased funding, to work with the board to improve student success in math and to advocate for increased teaching assistants for students with special education needs.

As school council chair at Agnes Taylor Public School and Sir William Gage Middle School, Kathy led parents in organizing events, supporting school initiatives and helping parents become involved in their child’s education. In her role as co-chair of the Peel board’s Parent Involvement Committee from 2012 to 2014, she promoted and encouraged parent involvement by organizing workshops, speakers and activities to help families best support their children.

Outside of the Peel board, Kathy is a dedicated volunteer. She is a coordinator for a community youth steel band, a children’s storyteller of Jamaican folktales, a member of the Congress of Black Women Brampton Chapter and the United Achievers’ Club and was previously chair of the Caribbean pavilion for Carabram, Brampton’s multicultural festival.
Kathy holds a Bachelor of Science from McGill University and a post-graduate diploma in the Theory of Teaching Practices from the University of Guelph.
