TREVOR POYSER- PEEL POLICE
Trevor immigrated to Canada in 1975 from Jamaica and he has made Canada his home since. Trevor is the eldest of three children and ironically he has three of his own.
Trevor completed a two year Accounting and Computers Course at Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology in 1989. He went on to a brief two and a half year career with the Toronto Dominion Bank automating their system
In 1985 Trevor was Co-founder and Vice-Chair of The West Indian Volunteer Youth Program (WIVYP). A program in the Rexdale area geared towards assisting not only West Indian families but all immigrant families adopt and adjust to the Canadian way of life. The program helped not only the youth but the parents with the challenges of the education system and employment. In 1986 he was elected Chairman of the Board. Due to family commitments he relinquished the positions several years later however he remained with the organization until 1993 in a diminished capacity. He was recognized as Volunteer of the Year in 1989 for his work as a Big Brother and board member, 2011 Unsung Hero Humanitarian Award recipient.
At the fruitful age of twenty-five (25), Trevor being the family oriented, community minded and the people person that he is he embarked on an illustrious 24 year career in policing with the Peel Regional Police.
Over the past twenty-five plus years Trevor has been involved one way or the other with a number of charities, volunteer organizations and youth groups. Organizations such as: JDRF, COPS for Cancer, United Way, G.L.A.D (Epilepsy Fundraiser), Block Parent, Toys 4 Tots, MacDonald, Tim Horton Camp Day, Brampton Harvest Clean Up, Churches and Schools throughout the GTA. Trevor is presently a head coach with the Brampton Minor Basketball Association (BMBA) at the REP level, which he has been doing for the past fourteen (14) years. He somehow finds the time to give up approximately 700 plus hours per year to his community.
